Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera: Biography

Part Ecuadorian, part Irish, Christina Aguilera was born on Staten Island on December 18, 1980. She began performing at age 6, and appeared unsuccessfully on Star Seach in 1988. In 1992 she joined Disney’s Mickey Mouse Club, which produced fellow stars Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake.

After recording a hit song ‘All I wanna Do’ in Japan, Aguilera returned to the US where her performance on the Mulan soundtrack earned her a major label contract with RCA . Her first album was self-titled, and achieved huge success, boosted by the chart topping single Genie In A Bottle. The album eventually recorded 8 million sales in the US alone and earned her a Grammy for Best New Artist.

Unlike fellow teen pop sensation Britney Spears, Aguilera has not avoided controversy over her image. Her increasingly sexual image and music has been criticised for promoting the wrong image to teenagers. Aguilera has shrugged off the criticism and her sexually charged 2002 single, Dirrrty (featuring Wu-Tang Clan’s Methodman) was a chart success.
