Gillian Anderson: Biography

Gillian Anderson was born on the 9th of August, 1968.

She lived with two other siblings in Puerto Rico, and also for 9 years in London [Crouch End and Haringey], while her father attended film school.

At the age of 11, she moved to Michigan, where she attended Fountain Elementary. After graduating from high school at City High in 1986, she moved to Chicago and attended the Goodman Theater School at DePaul University. She gained her Bachelor of Fine Arts and then moved to New York. Gillian first gained recognition as an actresss for her off-Broadway performance in Alan Ayckbourne’s “Absent Friends” at the Manhattan Theater Club, for which she won a Theatre World Award.

She moved to Los Angeles in ‘91 and upon getting a cast role of Dana Scully in The X-Files, relocated to North Vancouver, Canada, where she now resides with her husband and daughter. Gillian married Errol Clyde Klotz (former Arts Director for The X-Files), on New Years Day ‘94. The marriage took place on the 17th hole of a golf course in Hawaii, by a buddhist priest. Soon after, Gillian gave birth by Cesearean on the 25th September 1994 to a baby girl who they named Piper Anderson (8lb 10oz).

This marriage subsequently broke up and Gillian remarried Julian Ozanne, a documentary filmmaker, in 2004. They in turn split up in 2006.
