Sarah Michelle Gellar: Biography
Sarah Michelle Gellar was born on 14 April, 1977, and is an only child. Sarah enjoys ice skating, water skiing, roller-blading and she occasionally goes cliff diving. She was a competitive figure skater for 3 years and was ranked 3rd in the New York State Regional Competition. Sarah has taken 5 years of Tae Kwon Do and is active in physical fitness. She attended high school at Professional Children’s School in New York, graduating two years early with a 4.0, and considers herself a workaholic.
Gellar first began her acting career at age 4 when she was discovered by an agent while eating in a local restaurant. Three weeks later she was cast in her first film, An Invasion of Privacy. This chance discovery was to later boost her professional career which has lasted 17 years of her 21 year life. In addition to having been one of the two regular hostesses of the TV talk show, “Girl Talk,” Sarah is a veteran of film, stage and television.
She has appeared with Eric Stoltz and Matthew Broderick in The Widow Claire at the Circle in the Square, and had a feature film opening in which she co-starred with Robert Lupone and Sally Kirkland. She has also appeared in Crossbow which she filmed in France and Switzerland. She has done over 100 commercials and is a Wilhelmina Model.
Sarah Michelle played Molly in the original cast of Neil Simon’s Jake’s Women, and young Jacqueline Bouvier in the award winning NBC mini-series A Woman Named Jackie. Gellar started to gain a small, but loyal, fan-base when she played the lead role of Sydney Rutledge in the teen soap opera, Swans Crossing. In 1996, Sarah was picked as the lead of a new series called Buffy the Vampire Slayer, based on the movie of the same name. Warner Brothers bought 13 episodes of the show, and ratings of the pilot were the highest ever of any of the WB lineup. Warner Brothers has recently renewed Buffy the Vampire Slayer for another 22 episodes.
In June 1997, Sarah Michelle finished shooting I Know What You Did Last Summer, in which she co-stars alongside Jennifer Love Hewitt. It was released on October 17th and became number one that weekend, making a profit in just two days. Shortly after filming I Know What You Did Last Summer, Sarah flew down to Atlanta, GA to film Scream 2, which had the largest December opening of a film and made more money in it’s first weekend than the other top 9 films combined.
Sarah Michelle’s most successful recent film to date is the screen sensation “Cruel Intentions” in which she co-starred with Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Philippe.
